Applying for University

Applying for University can be an exciting, but also stressful time. Here at Southfield we try to eliminate some of that stress by providing a range of support for all of our students.

All students will be allocated a referee who will support them with writing their personal statement. Students also receive daily support with their form tutors during the application process. Students aspiring to attend a Russell Group University, or either Oxford or Cambridge University, will receive additional advice and guidance on their application.  Each student will also perceive a personal log in for Unifrog. This package will help to identify ‘aspirational’ and ‘safe’ choices with regards to their courses.

Each year in term 6, parents are invited to a ‘My future’ evening, whereby the UCAS application process is fully explained as well as Degree apprenticeships being discussed.

Once students have submitted their applications, their attention will then be turned to interview technique. Tutor times provide example questions as well as suggested ways of answering a question. Again, specialist support is offered for those students applying to either Oxford or Cambridge.

Within our Sixth form assemblies, students receive advice and guidance from a variety of University outreach workers who offer advice first hand on the application process. All students will also have the opportunity to attend the UCAS convention as well as completing a University visit.
