Southfield School Combined Cadet Force (CCF), Royal Navy Detachment

In January 2022, Southfield School were delighted to launch the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) - Royal Navy section to the extra-curricular opportunities.

You will find further details below and a link to the main CCF page at the end of this page. The CCF is a partnership between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and schools, creating a unique and incredible opportunity for young people to develop self-discipline, courage, respect for others, integrity, loyalty, and commitment. It also helps develop communication skills, confidence, being part of a team, giving a sense of pride and achievement.

Training Syllabus

We begin with the Junior Cadet (One Star) Award which will include:

  • Uniform issue
  • Drill (marching)
  • Learning about the Royal Navy
  • Swimming
  • Seamanship
  • Communications
  • Leadership training

The Royal Navy Training Syllabus is divided into different sections:

  • Junior Cadet to Ordinary Cadet
  • Ordinary Cadet to Able Cadet
  • Able Cadet to Leading Cadet
  • Leading Cadet to Petty Officer Cadet
  • Petty Officer Cadet to Chief Petty Officer Cadet
  • Chief Petty Officer Cadet – Warrant Officer 2 Cadet
  • Warrant Officers 2 Cadet – Warrant Officer 1 Cadet
  • Supported by Additional topics.

As cadets progress through the stages of the syllabus, they will gain badges and certificates for their achievements and qualifications.

Parade nights

Parade nights are on Tuesdays between 3:15 – 4:45 pm.

Uniform issue

Uniform will be issued, less boots which you we need to purchase yourself (if this is a problem, please speak to us).

There will not be a weekly cost, you will pay for chosen activities.

•Number 3 Dress – Best uniform!

•Number 4 Dress – Get dirty Uniform!

•Buy your own boots.

Along with the parade nights there is opportunity to take part in Paddle sports, learn to dinghy sail, field days to Greenwich, Portsmouth, and other historical places. Camps and Course are also offered through the Royal Navy cadet training team, this can be Junior leadership, dinghy sailing, windsurfing, canoe expeditions, and the annual summer camp in Dartmouth offering lots of adventure training and …..
