Application Process

Southfield Sixth Form offers a broad range of subjects that students can study to Level 3.  Students can study one of three pathways as follows:

  • Pathway 1:  ‘Academic’ qualifications (A Levels).  Students selecting this pathway will, in the main, study three A Levels and will have achieved 5 GCSEs 9 – 5 with a minimum of a grade 5 in English and maths.  They will, also, need to meet the subject entry requirements for all the subjects that they select. By exception, students may study four A Levels.  Students selecting this pathway will have achieved 5 GCSEs 9 – 7 with a minimum of a grade 7 in English and maths.  They will, also, need to meet the subject entry requirements for all the subjects that they select

  • Pathway 2:  Any three Level 3 courses, a combination of ‘academic’ and ‘vocational’ qualifications.   Students selecting this pathway will need to meet the subject entry requirements for all the subjects that they select.  Students not achieving a grade 4 in English or maths will need to resit these exams.

  • Pathway 3:  ‘Vocational’ qualifications (BTECs and Cambridge Technical).   Students selecting this pathway will have achieved 5 GCSEs 9 - 4 (or equivalent Level 2 passes) with a minimum of a grade 4 in English and maths.  They will, also, need to meet the subject entry requirements for all the subjects that they select.  Students not achieving a grade 4 in English or maths will need to resit these exams.

All students also have 1 hour of healthy living per fortnight to support in future planning, PSHEC, RSE and study skills.
