Where possible, we want our students to discover new concepts for themselves and we use practical work to help with this. Engaging practicals not only help students develop key dexterity skills but also provide that “wow” factor so that our students ask “why does that happen?” or “what would happen if…”
The end result of a successful science education may not be a student that goes into a science career (although quite a few students do). We hope that our students are able to make informed decisions, based on sound and accurate knowledge and understanding. This will empower them and help them feel more confident in future decisions they may need to make about health, nutrition or environmental concerns.
