Othello Performance Trip 2018

On Thursday 20th September 2018, Year 13 A-Level English Literature students enjoyed a trip to London to watch a performance of Othello at the The Shakespeare Globe Theatre.

Shakespeare’s Globe is the complex housing a reconstruction of the Globe Theatre, an Elizabethan playhouse associated with William Shakespeare, in the London Borough of Southwark, on the south bank of the River Thames.

Here is their report:

On the 20th of September 2018, we were fortunate enough to attend a showing of Shakespeare’s play ‘Othello’ at The Globe in London.  This was to maximise our understanding of the play for our A-Level English Literature course.

Starring Mark Rylance and Andre Holland, the production was inevitably an unforgettable one, and it was the huge effort of the teachers (who not only dedicated their day for us, but also managed to control us all on the tubes) that enabled us to have this lovely day.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Shakespeare’s play, the way he’d intended it to be watched by an audience when designing The Globe, and particularly liked the unique architecture of the building.

We also had plenty of time to explore the streets of London and enjoy (several) meals with the whole group.

With huge appreciation for all of the planning the staff dedicated to this trip, we are all in agreement that, not only did this day significantly develop our understanding of ‘Othello’ but, it was also a memorable start to our final year.
