CILIP Carnegie Medal Shortlist 2017

We celebrated the CILIP Carnegie Medal Shortlist Award on Monday 19th June 2017 at Kettering Buccleuch Academy.

This is the UK’s most prestigious children’s book awards; judged by librarians. Inspiring & challenging young readers via the CILIP Shadowing Scheme.

We were joined by students from four other Kettering area schools; Kettering Buccleuch Academy, Bishop Stopford, Kettering Science Academy, Latimer Arts College and ourselves.

It was a very enjoyable morning where we were able to discuss the shortlisted books with the other students, along with some delicious snacks!

We discussed all of the shortlisted books that we were given to read, and we also enjoyed a fun quiz about the books to see what we could remember about them.  Mae and Aimee each won a prize for their answers.

As a group, we decided that the book which we thought deserved to win the award was ‘Salt to the Sea’ and we were pleased to discover that this was later confirmed as the actual winner.

I found the Carnegie experience a very worthwhile event and I would be happy to participate in this award again.

Thank you to the Kettering Buccleuch Academy for hosting this year.

Jenna, Year 9
