Last term, our three Southfield swim teams, juniors, intermediate and senior girls all competed in the regional rounds of the English Schools Swimming Association Competition.
The regional round takes place across the whole of the country and the fastest 30 teams of each age group then qualify to go through and complete at the 61st ESSA Secondary Schools’ Team Championships held on Saturday 17th November 2018 at the London Aquatics Centre, home of the aquatics events during the London 2012 Olympics.

The junior girls are a very young team and did very well coming 151st out of 272 teams for their freestyle relay and 168th out of 239 teams for their medley relay.
This team was much faster than last year, they faced some strong competition and almost made the finals coming 58th out of 226 teams for their freestyle relay and 67th out of 212 teams for their medley relay.
The senior team swam extremely well and qualified for both their events at the National Championships. They came 6th out of 135 teams across the country for their freestyle relay and also 6th out of 132 teams for their medley relay.
The senior team are therefore off to swim at the Aquatic Centre for the National Championships in November.
This is a real achievement for our senior team. A majority of the other schools who also reached the top 30, have their own swimming pools at least 5 of which are dedicated to training young people to compete internationally!
Congratulations and well done to all of our teams and we wish the senior team lots of luck for the championships on the 17th November 2018.
A special thanks also goes to Aiyana and Olivia in Year 13, who have both swum for Southfield School every year since they started in Year 7.
