At Southfield School, we’re pleased to announce that work has now begun to refurbish five of our seven science labs.
After careful financial management and a generous donation from the “Kettering Old Grammar School Foundation”, we’re working with Klick Education to have the new facilities ready for occupancy in September 2017.
Along with Klick Education, members of our Science department visited other local schools in order to help plan the most effective use of our space available.
Work was timetabled and began over the spring half term and has continued through the student’s exam leave and ultimately their summer holiday. This has been to alleviate as much disruption to students as possible.
The new facilities will transform learning for both current and future students at Southfield and will help to continue our above national Science results. In 2016, 86% of our students achieved A* – C in Science.
Head of Science, Mrs Siobhan Hutchinson said “I’m starting to feel nostalgic about the old labs now and seeing them go, they could be described as retro! As a department, we’re really excited about the new facilities and the superb student experience we’ll have to offer.”
Once again, we’d like to thank the “Kettering Old Grammar School Foundation” for their generous contribution.
The new labs will be available to view during our Year 6 into 7 open evening, on Tuesday 26th September, 6pm – 8pm.
Below are some shots of the existing labs and an image from Klick to demonstrate the style of the new ones we’re having installed.
