Academic and Pastoral Support

We recognise that achievement and success do not come without support and we have a dedicated programme in place to assist the transition from sixth form to university, apprenticeships and the workplace as follows:

  • Students meet with their form tutor daily. They deliver a tutor programme which includes personal, social, health and careers development.
  • All sixth form students have an academic mentor with whom they meet formally every term. These meeting are informed by the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of students’ progress throughout the year.
  • Students have silent study periods on their timetables to formalise their independent learning.
  • Annual residential study weekend for Years 12 and 13.
  • Within the students’ timetables Southfield Sixth Form provides study support sessions and life skills sessions.
  • Personal Development Days throughout Years 12 and 13 focusing on key activities and skills appropriate to their stage in the learning journey.
  • University and apprenticeship application support throughout Years 12 and 13, plus additional support for Oxbridge and medicine applicants.
  • Access to external support agencies.
